Phase 2 · Control the opening · Session H

Eight in.
Straighter.
And wider.

Phase 2 check-in: opening, tracking and the headache count — and the first honest look at the habit work.

It responds slowly, then quickly

Jaw symptoms often change little for two weeks and then improve noticeably. Give it the full twenty sessions.

Flares are normal

A flare that settles within a day or two is sensitivity, not damage. Hold the level, do not stop.

Range you actually need

Most people can fit two or three fingers between the front teeth when opening. Less than two makes eating difficult and is worth treating.

Three couplets · two rounds · twelve minutes · a jaw that rests

A

Measure

Opening retest + tracking retest
A1

Opening retest

60 s · slow reps

Finger-widths between the front teeth; compare with session 4 and write it down.

Easier open less far  ·  Harder open further

R1R2—
A2

Tracking retest

10 reps · ×2

Open and close in the mirror; is the line straighter than it was at session 4?

Easier smaller opening  ·  Harder slower

R1R2
B

Endure

Opening endurance + isometric endurance
B1

Opening endurance

60 s · slow reps

Open to a comfortable range and close, repeatedly for the minute — count clean, straight reps.

Easier smaller opening  ·  Harder further

R1R2—
B2

Isometric endurance test

10 × 10 s · ×2

Resisted opening held for ten seconds; count how many clean holds before it aches.

Easier shorter holds  ·  Harder more pressure

R1R2
C

Habit

Clench frequency check + rest position hold
C1

Clench frequency check

60 s · slow reps

Through the minute, note how many times you catch your teeth touching. Fewer is the goal.

Easier longer intervals  ·  Harder shorter intervals

R1R2—
C2

Rest position endurance hold

12 × 10 s · ×2

Lips together, teeth apart, tongue up — held for ten seconds at a time, twelve times.

Easier shorter holds  ·  Harder longer holds

The clock

Round 1settle in — 70%, perfect tracking
0:00A1 → A2
2:00B1 → B2
4:00C1 → C2
Round 2own it — beat Round 1 by quality
6:00A1 → A2
8:00B1 → B2
10:00C1 → C2

Each couplet: 60 s scored → the loading set → 10 s to move on. Done at 12:00.

How to run it

  1. Open with the tongue on the roof of the mouth. That single cue controls most of what goes wrong.
  2. Use a mirror. The jaw should open in a straight line — if it swings to one side, shorten the range.
  3. A click without pain is not an emergency. Clicking that comes with pain or locking needs a dentist.
  4. Quality over range. A small, straight, quiet opening beats a big crooked one every time.
